Recognition of Prior Learning ( RPL)

Applicants who do not hold sufficient qualification to meet the education criteria under the Australian Immigration guidelines should apply for a Recognition of Prior Learning  or well known as skill assessment tests.. The RPL allows applicants to demonstrate their knowledge so the assessor can assess the applicants to an appropriate standard under the guidelines.

RPL Applicants are still expected to provide all the relevant education they hold. Applicants who apply for RPL and how do not hold a recognised qualification are still eligible to apply for the RPL and clear the assessment,  provided that they have genuine hands on experience in the nominated field of occupation.These tests are primarily run off-shore and conducted periodically in India. Skilled Worker Temporary Visa Subclass 457

In April 2009 the Australian Government announced a range of changes to the Skilled Worker Temporary Visa Subclass 457 in order to ensure that it continues to provide Australian industry with overseas workers who have needed skills, while not undermining training and employment opportunities for Australians.

From 1 July 2009 temporary workers applying for a 457 visa in the following trades: Welder (First Class); Motor Mechanic; Cook/ Chef; Fitter; and Metal Fabricator from an initial group of 10 countries including India must undertake a skills assessment.
